
The Government of Nepal hosted the third BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) Agriculture Ministerial Meeting in Kathmandu on 10 April 2025. During the meeting, India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nepal to enhance cooperation in agriculture. Myanmar hosted the first BIMSTEC Agriculture Ministerial Meeting on 12 July 2019, and India organized the second on 10 November 2022. Member countries held this third meeting just a few days after the 6th BIMSTEC Summit, which took place in Bangkok, Thailand on 4 April 2025. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leaders of BIMSTEC member countries attended the summit and engaged in discussions to boost regional cooperation.
BIMSTEC identifies agriculture and food security, including fisheries and livestock, as one of its seven key areas of cooperation. The Agriculture Ministerial Meeting serves as the highest decision-making body on agriculture and food security. The concerned ministers and senior officials of the member countries attend this meeting. They actively discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in the agricultural sector, including fisheries and livestock, and explore strategies to enhance collaboration among the member nations.

Strengthening agricultural cooperation among member countries. Promoting sustainable agriculture and food security. Exchange of technical knowledge and resources.
